A lively and expressive figurative painting, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1990.

The composition is centered around three gentlemen seated at a table. Two of them have their gazes faced at the viewer, and we get a glimpse of the side profile of the gentleman on the left.

The artist has taken a bold approach to its representational style, using a rich and lively colour palette as well as swift and dynamic brushstrokes to demonstrate depth as well as to enliven the scene.

Furthermore, the artist has also skilfully used white negative space to his advantage – as the use of gestural brushstrokes and lively colours against the white negative space of the canvas gives the painting a sense of space and also draws our attention to the expressive quality of the paint.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary dark grey frame with an inner gilt window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some light wear, but the appearance is still very good.
