An emotive and visually striking mid-century figurative composition, executed in oil on canvas.

The painting features an interior setting, where a female figure is seated by a table and beside an open window with a view outside. With her face resting on her hand, she is not facing the viewer (us) and appears to be deep in thought.

The artist has used a very rich and earthy colour palette, as well as bold expressive brushstrokes. The combination of these colours and strokes conveys a sense of emotional intensity, and may suggest a deep emotional experience or a connection to the artist’s inner world.

This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited gilt frame.  There is scattered craquelure throughout the painting, as well as some areas of paint loss to the upper edge and lower left as shown, and also two horizontal crease lines as shown. The frame has areas of minor wear.
