A sweet painting depicting two figures on a village lane, painted in oil onto board. A very pleasant array of pastel tones has been used to create this scene, and a pink-ish purple hue seems to wash over the painting. Long and wide painterly brushstrokes draw our eyes in towards the painting and onwards to the landscape beyond. Two figures appear to be having a conversation on a country lane, perhaps saying their hellos or goodbyes, we do not know.  There is a sense of nostalgia and sentimentality with this painting, created by a combination of factors including the dreamy colour palette as well as the way in which the figures have been painted. Modernist techniques of creating space within the picture can be seen, such as the use of contrasting planes of colour rather than traditional methods of perspective.

The painting is housed in its original mid century wood frame, with an inner linen lined border. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
