A wonderfully executed sombre oil painting depicting two figures walking through a long open road, dated 1938.
The canvas is filled with expressive brushstrokes that have been executed confidently, in a restrained mellow colour palette.
The figures could almost be missed at first glance – their size pales in comparison to the vast lands and gloomy skies above them.
The painting not only serves as a reminder on the importance of human connection, but also on the insignificance of human life against the scale of the universe, and how we should not hold on to our worries too deeply.
The painting is housed in a robust, heavy silver painted distressed wood frame. The painting is in very good vintage condition, and the frame has some losses to the edges which have been painted over in silver and are thus inconspicuous unless closely inspected.
Size: 52 x 60cm (including frame)
