An oil painting reminiscent of the famous expressionist works by Vincent Van Gogh, this Swedish work by Ulf Granlund bears striking colour, emphatic brushwork and contoured forms. Granlund has managed to capture the earnestness and intensity that comes with the labour of lambing, telling a story through the use of his paintbrush.
The lambing season marks the end of the long winter and the start of spring and new beginnings. The farmer stays on hand all night to help his ewes bring their precious little lambs safely into this world. Grandlund captures this scene wonderfully and with a marked tenderness.
This oil is painted on canvas on stretchers, and is framed in its original box frame which shows off its wood grain.
Painted in 1969, it remains in excellent vintage condition.
