The Island

SOLD.

A large and highly textured mid-century abstract modernist composition, executed in oil onto board.

This abstract composition blurs the boundary between painting and sculpture, with its three dimensional surface protruding from the board. A series grooves and and lines have been etched into the thickly painted surface, which features an array of thoughtfully arranged geometric shapes in rich and lively colours. The grooves and lines almost resemble threads, almost as though the surface has been embroidered. The artist has clearly pushed the medium to its limits, experimenting with several textural effects.

Although abstract in nature, the artwork could perhaps resemble an island with areas of land, mountains and sea.

With its focus on the beauty of colour, line, texture, brushstrokes, shapes and patterns, this intriguing and very energetic artwork would make for an excellent statement piece in any interior. Its punch of colour and sculptural qualities are a visual feast for the eyes.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary black frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

Size: 82 x 64 cm (including frame)
