A very textured mid century modernist composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1949 on the reverse.
In this scene we see two figures along a garden path, tending to the trees. Behind them we see a house, which is presumably where they live. The artist has painted with a very restrained palette, using only black, purple, green and yellow. The lighter colours contrast against the bold black, creating juxtaposing planes of colour. The artist has applied the paint very thickly, giving this painting a three dimensional textural effect.
The painting is housed in a black frame, which suits it very well. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
