When looking at this painting, it is hard not be reminded of the works by fauvist painter Andre Derain who was known for painting with characteristically defined forms with rapid comma-like strokes or dashes of lively colour. Similarly, in this painting, brilliant colour and visible brushstrokes have been used to create surface patterns, giving us the sense of a hot, late summer’s afternoon.
The painting is housed in a very complementary white stained wood frame which brightens the piece significantly. This 20th century painting and frame are in good vintage condition, with minor signs of ageing and scuffs that are commensurate with age.
