A very pleasing and well executed mid century river & city scape composition, painted in oil onto canvas.

The painting has a beautifully gentle feel to it – the artist has used mostly soft colours in a pastel palette, with the exception of darker colours for the wood structures within the scene. The artist has successfully conveyed the softness of fresh snow that has covered the landscape. The cityscape of Stockholm under a pastel sky lines the back of the composition, while in the foreground we see a boat docked on the river Söderström. In the foreground, the artist has used richer, darker colours contrasted with the white snow to give our eyes a focus, and then lightening as we move further back into the composition. The movement of the brushwork is also interesting to notice, with areas of more distinct horizontal and vertical strokes contrasting against other areas with shorter, swifter strokes.

The painting is housed in a beautifully rustic wood frame with an inner gilt border, as well as a cream coloured slip. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The inner border of the frame has some marks, as shown in the photos.
