A large, panoramic oil depicting a traditionally-rigged sailing vessel, painted in oil in 1947. This bold, expressive oil features rich colouring and distinct and dynamic brushstrokes. The artist’s confident and skilful painterly manner is certainly apparent, and the combination of the rich palette, dynamic strokes and large size would make this a statement piece in any interior.
The painting is housed in a wide and robust gilt and green frame that suits it very well. The painting has areas of craquelure and some minor areas of surface paint loss which are visible upon close inspection and are typical for an oil painting of this age (as shown in photos), but these do not detract from the overall attractiveness of the painting. The frame is in good condition with some very minor scuffs to the inner window.
