This large abstracted depiction of the female figure may seem simple at first glance, but as we spend the time to look at its forms, lines and colours, we soon realise its complexity. In some ways a reminder of the Nude Blue cut-outs series by Henri Matisse, the nude figure in this painting has been abstracted down to a group of shapes and colours. The artist has avoided any attempt to mimic reality and has instead used blocks of soft yet contrasting colours to create a sense of space and three dimensionality. Paint has been applied lightly and sparsely, allowing the raw canvas to show through.
Painted by Hans Lönn in 1968, this wonderful oil is housed in a red and gilt wood frame with a linen slip, and is in excellent condition with some minor scuffs to the frame.
