A night scene of a figure walking through a courtyard, painted in rich saturated colour. In the centre of the painting we see a brightly lit street lamp, which seems to illuminate the rest of the picture. The street and houses, painted in contrasting colour, are set against the blue night sky. The lone walking figure sets the mood of the painting beautifully.

The painting reminds me of this poem by the poet Shalom Freedman:

I am a quiet old man walking on a quiet night
All is calm
Light in my soul
And outside
The breeze fresh and cool
Soothes my mind-

I am a quiet man
who has had much good in his life
Walking home

The painting is housed in a dark grey frame with a linen slip. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
