An atmospheric modernist style composition executed in oil onto canvas by the well-established Swedish artist Fabian Lundqvist (1913-1989).

The painting presents a night scene with a moon shining brightly in the background of the painting, lighting up a view of building facades. A row of hills spread across in the distance, and tall and slender cypress trees punctuate both sides of the painting, with the artist skilfully capturing their shadows cast onto the ground.

Painted with a modernist ethos, the artist has reconstructed the scene down to flat blocks of contrasting colours to create a sense of space and depth. The painting has a tranquil quality to it, brought forth though the use of soft and gentle brushstrokes as well as a soothing colours of blue and brown shades.

This oil on canvas is housed in its original mid century frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The silver border on the frame has some light scuffing and its linen border has some age toning to the top edge.
