There is a very satisfying sense of movement and rhythm within the composition, created through sweeping gestural brushstrokes. Areas of impasto (where the paint is applied thickly and so stands proud from the surface) give the painting its texture and depth. The painting is reminiscent of vigorous waves of an ocean, or of a mountain landscape with wind and snow. Either way, there is a palpable feeling of nature and its forces.
The painting is housed in its original mid century frame with a dark wood inner window, and a gilt outer border. Both painting and frame are in good vintage condition.
