An outstanding and delicate gouache on paper, painted in 1940.
A young man is depicted standing on a bridge looking out to the calming view in front of him. He is back facing the viewer, and is caught up in his own world, watching the ships in the blue river sail past, with skyscrapers dominating the background.
There is softness overflowing through the brown undertones in the work, and the painting is imbued with a sense of wonder.
Artwork and frame are in excellent vintage condition. The artwork is glazed (there is a sheet of glass between the frame and the painting).
