An exceptional and very striking mid century figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

The painting depicts 2 figures in front of a row of houses, that appear to be hanging laundry out to dry. The scale of the 2 figures have been enhanced, making them the focal point of the composition.

Working with a modernist ethos in mind and painted in a semi-abstract manner, the artist has intentionally chosen not to focus on realistic details, and instead explores the use of colours, brushstrokes and form.

Working boldly in his medium of oil, confident and expressive brushstrokes fill the canvas, and the artist has used a vibrant and saturated colour palette, thoughtfully pairing and layering the various rich shades to give rise to this composition.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wooden frame with a gilt window and an inner linen border. There is some minor ageing to the frame, in keeping with the vintage style. On the painting, there is a small area of paint loss to the right side, as shown in the close ups, but the paint layer is stable overall. Overall the appearance is very lovely, and the painting is in good vintage condition.
