A striking and brilliantly mid century cubist composition in oil, painted onto board.

This painting depicts two female figures seated at a balcony table, with a jug and two glasses in front of them. Beyond the balcony is an ocean view with the setting sun.

The artist has reduced the scene down to its formal qualities, focusing on shape, line, pattern and colour. The figures and the scene surrounding them have been painted from multiple angles under a cubist ethos, resulting in a composition that appears fragmented and abstracted. The artist has also restricted his colour palette, using a majority of vivid red, brown, white and orange in different tones. Notwithstanding the fragmentation and palette, the painting is wonderfully balanced and sings with harmony.

This piece would make a very striking addition to any interior and would be a real statement piece.

The painting is housed in its original mid century frame. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has some damage to the inner section of its lower right corner, as shown in the close up photos.
