A beautifully textured mid century abstract composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1962.

The artist has used thick layers of blended colour to build up this expressive composition. Areas of impasto (where the paint stands proud from the surface) can be seen across the surface of the canvas, giving it a three dimensional and sculptural effect. As we scan the picture, we can almost feel the artist working with his paint, applying thick viscous layers of oil with his brush and blending them together. This painterly style celebrates the medium of oil –  artist is revelling in the manipulation of the oil paint itself and making the fullest use of its sensuous properties.

The painting is housed in a very complementary light wood frame with an inner white window. The painting has an area of light craquelure to the top left section (as shown in photos), but the paint is stable overall.
