A wonderfully restful mid century oil on canvas, depicting a rural landscape with cottages.

Through the use of a muted colour palette and smooth, even brushwork, the artist has captured this quiet and peaceful scene of a rural village. In front of a row of farm buildings lies a river, edged by cobbled banks, and behind it sit high mountains. This idyllic composition is punctuated by three simple trees, whose forms add a satisfying balance to the picture.

The artist has used flat, even planes of colour that repeat throughout the picture, creating a sense of harmony and consonance.

The painting is housed in its original mid century wood frame with an inner gilt window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some minor scuffing to the lower edge, as shown in the photos.
