A striking and brilliantly executed geometric abstract composition, executed in oil onto canvas in 1958.

Rows of houses of different colours and sizes are neatly presented and aligned. Painted with a distinctly modernist ethos, the artist has reconstructed this scene down using flat blocks of contrasting colours to create a sense of space and depth, beautifully composing an almost puzzle-like composition with different sized geometric shapes fitting together.

Working with a restrained palette with a mix of light white tones contrasting against darker shades of red, purple and blue and arranged structurally, the painting is very well balanced and has a harmonious feel.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim wood frame. The painting has some very light craquelure to its lower half (as shown in close ups), but the paint layer is very stable overall. The frame has some minor scuffing, commensurate with age.
