A brilliantly executed mid century modernist street scene, painted in oil onto board and dated 1955.

The painting depicts a scenic neighbourhood where rows of different coloured houses are neatly lined up. Painted on the surrounding streets and in the distance are areas of white that resemble snow, alluding to the winter season.

Using a lively colour palette comprising shades of green, orange and brown, the artist has reconstructed this composition into blocks of contrasting colours that have been defined by thin green outlines, drawing our attention to their individual form and shape.

The colours in this painting harmonise beautifully, and together with the painterly and lightly-textured brushstrokes, there is an uplifting feel to this artwork.

This oil on board is housed in a wood frame with visible grain and an inner white window that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
