Gaze Away

SOLD.

A gentle and tender vintage oil portrait of a nude, executed onto board and dated 1949.

A female figure is depicted sitting on a red chair, with her gaze turned away from us as she faces a window.

Expressive and painterly brushstrokes have been skilfully used to paint this composition – the artist has successfully captured the form of the female body, as well as the way the light hits the figure’s skin. Juxtaposed against the soft and light pastel shades of the composition is the bold red chair. This pop of colour not only creates a focal point for our eyes, but also brings a cohesiveness to the composition.

This oil on board is housed in a well-suited wide profile light wood frame with visible grains. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
