A really interesting and detailed oil painting of a selection of antiquities and collectables. The array of objects presented atop a white table reflect an interest in world culture and history, and perhaps even the particular interests of a scholar or explorer who might have picked up these objects on his travels. In the background hangs a patterned fabric, possibly of East Asian origin.

The artist has taken great care in capturing the varying textures of each object. For example, we are able to surmise the polished stone of the head study on the left, whose surface texture stands in contrast to the rougher finish of the tall earthenware vessel in the middle.

The painting is housed in a very unique textured wide profile frame with a mixture of finishes, included a moulded gilt inner window.

Painted in 1959, it is in very good vintage condition overall. There are some cracks in the paint that are only visible if inspected very closely, but the paint surface stable. Cracks like these are very normal for a painting of this age as the paint medium contracts over time.
