A large and brilliantly executed mid century still life in oil, painted in 1948.
A group of fluted flowers sit within a simple cylindrical vase on a windowsill. The way in which the artist has painted the moonlight streaming in gives this painting its distinctly cinematic quality. The glow of the flowers underneath the moonlight add to this dramatic effect. The colour palette has a hint of melancholia, where deep colours of blue and green repeat throughout the composition, from the flowers, to the vase they sit in , to the sill and to the window. With its richly romantic character and its delicately balanced composition, this mid century oil would definitely add something special and elevate the space it is hung in.
This oil on board is in very good vintage condition. The ornate decorative gilt frame within which it is housed suits the dramatic nature of this painting wonderfully.
