A large and semi abstract mid century oil on canvas, painted in 1966.
We can be forgiven for not being able to see the subject pictured here as the artist has simplified the forms into flattened shapes so dramatically that the painting looks almost fully abstract at first glance. He has used large blocks of juxtaposing colour in a multi-directional, expressive style to create this lively composition. As our eyes begin to get accustomed to the view before us, a river bridge slowly begins to reveal itself. This transitional effect between abstraction and reality and vice versa makes this painting wonderfully interesting to look at, and encourages us to move between different viewing modes.
The painting is housed in a robust wood frame which suits it perfectly. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
Size: 61 x 76 cm (including frame)
