The simple background enhances the deep and almost jewel-like colours of the apples. The artist has skilfully captured the myriad of red, yellow and green tones of the apples. The slightly imperfect and misshapenness of the apples are enhanced by the seemingly spontaneous and expressive brushstrokes, which capture the character of the fruit wonderfully. The colours of the apples are echoed slightly in the reflection on the saucer they are on.

    The painting is housed in a beautiful gilt frame which suits the painting very well and enhances the colours within it. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
