A large and very well executed 20th century modernist style oil composition, painted onto canvas.
The artist has left out realistic details, reducing the landscape down to planes of colour that blend effortlessly into each other, while still creating a sense of depth and space on the canvas. In the centre of the composition we see a group of farmhouses painted in vivid dark brown and white, creating a focal point and drawing our eyes inward initially. As we shift our focus to the lower half of the composition where the fields have been depicted, angular shapes in soft colours fit together seamlessly like a jigsaw puzzle. Despite the angled shapes, there is a distinct softness to it that makes it very visually pleasing. As we move upwards, a woodland sits behind the farmhouses, giving the composition a wonderful balance and sense of harmony. The artist has used the colour palette very skilfully to full effect, giving the picture a wonderful luminosity.

A mid century limited edition (50/310) coloured lithograph, signed by Esaias Thorén.
Esaias Thorén (1901-81) was a Swedish artist who studied in Paris in the 1920s with Carl Wilhelmson. While there he visited Fernand Léger’s studio and was influenced by his approach. Initially inspired by cubism he later developed more as a surrealist artist in the 1930s and was part of a group of artists in Halmstad group who followed that approach including Waldemar Lorentzon, Axel and Eric Olson each of whom went on to become notable artists in their own right. He exhibited widely in Sweden where is is well-known and collected as a leading Swedish modernist. His work is represented in the Museum of Modern art in Stockholm, Gothenburg Art Museum and the Malmo Museum.
This mid century print is housed behind glass in a very complementary metal frame. There is a very small crack in the glass to the lower left which is visible upon close inspection. It does not detract from the artwork and the overall appeal of the piece, which is in good condition otherwise.

A brilliantly executed mid century still life in oil, painted by the established artist Eric Cederberg.
Thick swirls of creamy paint form the background of the top half of the composition, and then below this we have a darker brown area with outlines in thick strokes that mimic the appearance of wood grain. Contrasted against this earthy palette are three bright and vivid pears, still connected to their branches and their ochre leaves. There is a beautiful balance to the horizontal composition, which Cederberg is known to be adept at achieving.
Cederberg was a Swedish artist who made his debut on the art world in Helsingborg in 1922. Later he participated in the Skåne Art Association Exhibition in 1926 and the Swedish Public Art Society exhibition in Stockholm in 1941. He is represented in several public collections in Sweden.

A typically modernist abstract mid century oil painted in 1958 that would be a striking addition to any interior.
With its hard edged lines and fragmented imagery, it is reminiscent of the cubist movement, as well as of the Vorticist works of Wyndham Lewis.
Broad, angled white lines move in all directions filling the surface of the canvas. These lines are set against tan and light brown rectangular patterns. Although abstract in its imagery, the weaving and interlinked lines seem to trace a movement, and bring to mind a mechanical motion. The hard edges of the patterns juxtapose the more subtle, minimal colour palette, focusing our eyes on the more formal properties of the composition such as shape, form and line.
There are some paint and surface losses to the corners and edges. It has been framed in an unconventional way – The painted board has been fixed to stretcher bard and then a black frame has been attached around the stretcher bars, so the board protrudes from the frame. Two boats sit quietly on the ice, a static but powerful image. The red and black of the boats contrast starkly against the white and light blue of the ice. Our eyes are initially drawn towards the right side of the composition, where darker, wider and more controlled brushstrokes mark the canvas vertically. As our eyes move leftwards, these strokes become looser, less controlled and more discordant. The composition is a skilful balance of spontaneity and tight control, and conveys strong emotion and perhaps the inner impulses of the artist.

A confidently executed and beautifully textured mid century landscape with reindeer, painted in oil onto board.
This painting is both reminiscent of the post-impressionist style of artists like Van Gogh, as well as of Fauvist painters like André Derain. It features thick, bold, undisguised brushstrokes in vibrant colours, and is very much a subjective, emotional response to the landscape (as opposed to just painting the landscape as realistically as possible). That being said, the artist has managed to strike a find balance between an emotional response and capturing the scene before him and how it looked. The combination of the texture and colouring of this painting makes it a stand out piece.

A luscious and striking semi-abstract mid century landscape in oil, painted in 1961 by well known Swedish artist Ivar Morsing.
In this picture, deep, rich, vivid greens juxtapose beautifully against the yellows and creams of the foreground and sky.
Though no realistic details are present, the artist skilfully conveys the forms of the landscape such that we are able to discern them. Thick swirls of green in a range of tones make up the forms of the trees, creating areas of impasto that add texture and three dimensionality to the painting. Morsing punctuates the composition with a light coloured building in the distance, giving our eyes a focal point as well as adding a distinct sense of depth that lead our eyes in and around the picture.
