A brilliantly executed contemporary abstract composition, executed in acrylic onto canvas, by British artist Frances Daws.
The paintings in this series respond to the calming presence of the colour green. Frances consciously spends as much time as she can outside. She lives close to woodlands and fields, making it easy to be immersed within greenery. Resting in Green seeks to capture the varying shades of greens within a snapshot of plants and how the relationship of these colours can form interesting compositions.

This fluid, abstract composition immerses the viewer in a serene, verdant atmosphere. Dominated by various shades of green, interwoven with hints of olive, moss, turquoise, and muted ochre, the work evokes the sensation of being enveloped by nature.

Organic, curvilinear forms ripple across the canvas, overlapping and intertwining in a way that mimics the foliage that Frances is inspired by. She employs layered brushwork and soft transitions between tones, creating a gentle rhythm that guides the eye across the piece.

There’s a meditative stillness in the work, capturing the quiet energy of an abstracted garden. Despite its abstraction, the composition feels balanced and harmonious, with light and dark greens playing off each other in a soothing visual dialogue.

A very atmospheric and expressive abstract landscape painting, executed in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.

It captures the emotional essence of a coastal environment rather than a literal depiction, using abstract forms and a painterly style to evoke the energy, complexity, and richness of the scene.

Earthy tones of red, brown, black, and orange dominate the central form, possibly alluding to rock formations, cliffs, or human structures. The bottom area is awash with cool greys, off-whites, and hints of gold, possibly representing a beach or tidal flat.

The atmosphere is introspective yet vigorous, echoing nature’s forces—wind, water, erosion—while remaining grounded in abstract expressionism.

The style is gestural and semi-abstract, reminiscent of mid-20th-century European modernism, where landscape becomes a conduit for emotional expression.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary white frame.  Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

    Size: 65.5 x 65.5 cm (including frame)

A large and very atmospheric landscape painting, painted onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.

This semi-abstract landscape powerfully captures the wild, changeable atmosphere of the Cornish coast, likely inspired by the moody environment near the village of Zennor in southwest England.

The sky dominates the composition with a bold expanse of turquoise blue, suggesting a clearing or break in weather. A large, dark grey cloud mass occupies the centre, rendered with sweeping, smudged strokes that create a sense of motion and tension. Deeper greens, browns, and black at the bottom evoke moorland or rugged earth, painted with energetic brushwork and scraped textures.

The painting exudes a dramatic, elemental energy, evoking the feeling of standing exposed to the sky on coastal high ground, just before or after a storm. It feels both expansive and intimate, caught between serenity and threat—hallmarks of Cornwall’s raw natural beauty.

This painting  is housed in a complementary white frame.  Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

A striking mid-century modernist style composition of an interior scene, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1948 by the established Swedish artist Rune Janson (1918-2004), who’s artworks have been displayed at the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Gothenburg Art Museum and other museums in Sweden and the National Gallery in Oslo and the Centre Georges Pompidou Paris.

The painting captures a simplified interior scene anchored by a solitary wooden chair, rendered in bold, gestural strokes. Positioned against a backdrop of abstracted architectural forms, the composition distills a domestic setting into its essential shapes and tones.

Modernist in its ethos and executed in an expressive style, the artist has used wide, confident brushstrokes and a palette of muted shades including purple, orange and blue. The chair – angular and minimally detailed – is positioned diagonally, its presence both grounded and abstract, inviting the viewer into a contemplative space.

The painting’s flat planes and rhythmic blocks of colour speak to the influence of European modernism, where figuration merges seamlessly with abstraction. The brushwork is raw and tactile, allowing the texture of the paint and canvas to resonate with emotional immediacy.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A serene and uplifting mid-century modernist coastal landscape painting, executed in oil onto board.

The painting captures a sweeping coastal road as it bends gently toward the sea. Modernist in its ethos, the composition is defined by its bold simplification of form – trees, path, and shoreline reduced to expressive, geometric shapes in contrasting colour.

The brushwork is confident and flat, with areas of solid colour laid down in deliberate blocks, creating a sense of stylised stillness. Trees appear as abstracted vertical forms, their trunks and canopies subtly suggested rather than rendered in detail.

Muted tones of green, grey, and earthy taupe dominate the land, while the sea is rendered in serene blues punctuated by white sails, adding rhythm and motion to the horizon. The sky, a dusty olive-grey, creates a harmonious counterbalance to the grounded palette below.

This oil on board is housed in very well suited wood frame. there is some wear on the left edge of the painting where it meets the frame, but the painting is in good vintage condition overall. The frame has very minor scuffing.

A very atmospheric mid century modernist landscape composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1957.

This painting features an abstracted coastal village scene, likely seen from across a body of water. The forms are geometric and simplified, with visible palette knife texture and thick impasto paint application, giving the surface a tactile quality.

The rooftops are rendered in soft peach and pinkish tones, contrasted against cooler shades of grey, blue, and violet that suggest the sky and sea. The artist uses layered horizontal bands and angular structures to define the architecture and landscape, while the brushwork and impasto emphasize a modernist, impressionistic abstraction. The buildings are mostly blocky and flat, but their arrangement and the subtle changes in colour imply depth and perspective.

The overall mood is tranquil and muted, evoking a foggy or overcast day in a quiet seaside village. Despite the abstraction, there’s a clear sense of structure and place, with the rooftops forming a cosy cluster amidst the misty surroundings.

This is a serene and sophisticated landscape, abstracted to emphasize form, tone, and texture over realism, likely by an artist influenced by modernist and post-impressionist sensibilities.

The painting is housed in a very well made and complementary frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A vibrant mid-century modernist still life oil painting that captures a calm interior moment with a strong sense of geometry and structure, by Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The composition depicts a sculptural white chalice and a cluster of green apples arranged on a deep-set window ledge, overlooking a lush countryside scene.

The composition is both minimal and expressive, with bold simplifications of form and an emphasis on flat planes of colour. The palette is rich and harmonious – cool greens and blues dominate the landscape beyond the window, while warm yellows and lime greens bring depth and contrast to the foreground. The sky is rendered in a serene powder blue, adding an atmosphere of quiet clarity.

The brushwork is confident and textured, with visible strokes that provide a tactile quality to the foliage and surfaces. The artist has used broad, sweeping motions for the background trees, and more sculptural, deliberate application for the chalice and fruit. The overall effect is one of elegant stillness, where the boundary between inside and outside is both physical and painterly.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs and marks present.

A charming and lively 20th century modernist composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1994.

This painting is a lively, stylised market scene. The composition is structured with clear spatial organization and bold colour blocks, using a bird’s-eye view to depict the bustling activity.

Market stalls and vans are arranged throughout the square, painted in vivid colours like green, red, and orange. Figures of vendors and shoppers are loosely rendered with minimal detail, emphasizing movement and atmosphere over realism. At the centre is a small circular fountain, anchoring the composition.
