  • Magpies

    Sold

    SOLD.

A fun and striking mid-century semi abstract modernist composition of magpies, executed in oil onto board.

The painting depicts three magpies in nature, standing on a tree branch and surrounded by green leaves.

Containing elements of cubism and abstraction, the artist has fragmented this composition down to shapes of contrasting colours and sizes using a rich and lively palette. Not only has he skilfully created an appearance of a stained glass window, but he has also created a sense of three-dimensionality in the way the respective colours are paired and  contrasted together.

This painting is housed in a wood frame with an inner linen lined border. There is some slight wear to the paint surface on the artwork, but this is commensurate with age and does not detract from its overall attractiveness. There is a small loss to the lower left section of the frame, as shown in close ups.

    Size: 34 x 35cm (including frame)

A lovely mid century oil on board of a pair of horses by a river, painted in 1958. This painting has a wonderful countryside and rural feel to it. Miniature paintings are often overlooked treasures. Their small size means they can fit into an array of small spaces, adding interest to nooks and crannies. They can be displayed on a bookshelf or kitchen shelf, either standing on a mini easel or leant against other objects/books. If added to a group display, these small pieces act as a wonderful contrast to bigger pieces, and can add ‘punctuation’ to the group hang.

  • Le Cheval

A lovely delicate miniature study of a horse painted in 1917. The overall beige and cream tones in this miniature watercolour, as well as the use of fine and soft brushstrokes lend much lightness to the overall tone.

It is well presented within a mount and a wonderful wooden frame with a wide profile and visible grain. With its multiple ‘windows’, this frame adds volume and focus to the painting, and pairs perfectly with it.

This framed miniature is in very good vintage condition. There is very slight crevice along the lower section of the frame that is visible only upon close inspection. The structure of the wood frame remains very stable.

    Painting Size: 11.5 x 11.5 cm
